Poor Neglected Baby (Original Song)

The blanket is huge; a black velvet night sea. I crawl in and let it cover me. In wrapping me in, I discover a small leg. The baby is naked. The somber eyes don’t beg.  She reaches out. And I can’t shout.

Poor neglected baby! You get so used to sitting in it, you think its warmth is your comfort. Poor neglected baby! You get so used to sitting in it, you think filth is your food.  But there is a One who will pick you up and dry you off and keep you warm.  There is a One who will never fail. You won’t have to worry no more.

As I watched she turned away, back to her concerns. Her rash spreads and opens and brings the pain she earns. Too busy loathing the stink that she creates; she learns to love all the things she hates. I am too weak but I say:

Poor neglected baby! You get so used to sitting in it, you think lonely is your freedom. Poor neglected baby! You get so used to sitting in it, you think orphan is your name.  But there is a One who will pick you up and dry you off and keep you warm.  There is a One who will never fail. You won’t have to worry no more.

You just cry out to Jesus and He’ll pick you up, dry you off, comfort you. You just cry out to Jesus and He’ll shelter you, keep you safe, dry your eyes. Let Him take you home, home like no other, where you’ll always be safe. You cannot imagine the peace, the love, the warmth, the perfection. But you have to travel so far from here. Let him take you home. Cry to Him, cry to Him, cry out child.
